I am back to working on a 1936 JD "A" (brother-in-laws). Started it a year ago, and did not work on it this summer (did not find the time). Had rotator cuff surgery Sept. 2nd and the Dr. just released me to work with my right arm again. I was doing a lot before that, but don't tell my wife ;-).
OK I'll try the picture thing. Nope, can't figure it out. Please help or I'll keep trying.

I heard it was because they didn't actually pull plows, they shook them through the ground.

Dennis, when you go to paint that puppy, the correct color is PO#1. I looked it up.

Started on it last T-day. The head was broken because of water left in it. #2 piston was rusted to the cylinder. I got the piston out, then took the parts to the machine shop in Nevada, Iowa. They welded the head, put sleeves in the cylinders and bored it back to the size of the .045 cast pistons and I am reusing them. I painted the bottom of the block and frame where the block sits because it is so close that paint will not get in there after assembly. I will clean the rest of it then paint. I am not sure of what method to use to clean the cast. This is by far the worst tractor that I have done. Things are rusted and don't move, rear wheels are rusted bad, mice got into the radiator and down into the block, etc. This was his grandfather's tractor and that is why he is spending the money to get it restored.
Those 2 cly. engines had a long stroke so they had a lot of tourque (that is what JD says) and I like the unique sound. I have a '51 JD "B" and of course the '55 WD45 and a '66 D15 LP.

I just thought of what happened on plow day several years ago, I was using the JD B and pulling 2 14's and doing a great job. I stopped and a guy came and talked to me and said what a good runing tractor that you have, but he just wanted to know "where is the motor?" I kept from laughing and explained to him where the motor was. I am not sure he really understod "where the motor was" lol.
