    Posted: 14 Nov 2011 at 11:28am
My WD45 currently has a toggle switch for the ignition and I was wanting to put a key switch back on it. I bought one of those universal key ignition switches from tractor supply. It is to bulky and won't fit with the fused light switch I have in the way. Anybody know of some smaller switches that will work?

I have a inline fuse on the power wire going to the switches. The light switch is fused and I have it wired for one pull headlights come on....second pull headlights and back light comes on.

Can I just use a regular light switch instead that doesn't have its own fuse? That would make the switch less bulky. The new ignition switch I bought might fit then.

I would try to figure out a different ignition switch.  I would like to put the type of light switch you have on my tractor! One pull the headlights, two pulls and you get front and rear lights!!  Can't find a switch like that around here.

I have a 8N ignition switch in our WD and the key position is oppisite of the correct switch. What was off is now on and on is now. Buy the correct switch is my suggestion.

Evidently, you aren't running a 6 volt generator with a cut-out relay. That is what the 3 position switch with the fuse was for. First position had the field windings wired through a resistor, second position was for lights with the field grounded for a full charge, third position was just the field grounded for a full charge.
If you no longer run the cut out, you can remove the big switch and replace it with something smaller without a fuse, as long as the lights are fused somewhere.

I'm not running the stock switch It was discarded years ago....I am using a switch from the farm store for the lights and it has a built in fuse. I have a inline fuse in the wire providing power to the switch also. I'm gonna do away with the fused switch and get a regular one and see if that gives room for this ignition switch I bought.
