31 days in the shop and $2600 in parts I rebuilt the PD, replaced 4th gear, transmission input shaft seal, rear main, flywheel adapter plate o rings, wheel bearings, wiring, adjusted valves, installed missing rocker shaft cork plugs, pto seal, complete fluid service, fan belt, fuel gauge, and added two remotes.

The remotes seem to work fine now that the new valve is between the pump and the original valve. The valve is mounted under the platform and the controls are in the console.

I think the PD rebuild went well. I guess only time will tell. It seems as though the inner hub was grooved and it broke the plate.

When adjusting the valves I noticed the rocker shaft cork plugs were gone. I wonder how long thy were missing. Is it common for them to disappear?

I still have a oil leak down the front of the flywheel adapter plate. I replaced the o rings what could have gone wrong there? Could it be the pan gasket? The pan is dry. The oil run down on the front side of the plate behind the steering mount. Please advise

The new fuel gauge doesn't work. I have 12 volts to the correct side. When the tank was empty it showed 0 ohms resistance through the sending unit. I dumped in 5 gallons and the resistance rose to I believe 12 ohms. The gauge showed empty. I put 20 gallons in
it still shows empty. What resistance range should the sender read? Does there need the be a condenser in the circuit?

Thanks to all for your help.

There are oil galley plugs in the back of the block, actually 4 in the block 2 in front 2 in back, one of them has a hole in it to oil the idler brg. assy. that drives the inj. pump on diesels....it is possible that someone could have put the wrong plug in the back of the block......(experience.....and not paying attention.....speaking here :-) ...).  That could be a possibility but not sure just thought id throw that in there....obviously the pan gaskets on those are hideous too, and hope that is the problem.

Thanks Slade, for your thoughts.
Anyone know what range in ohms the sending unit should read?

Zero resistance should be a full tank and 25-30 ohms of resistance should be empty.

Trade it on an 856- thats really funny- talk about a step back, The oil leak is prolly one of the -o- rings in the engine plate, there are 2 , big one and a small one, or the main crank seal ,I always replace the wear ring when doing that one , I had a 185 I was working on that  I couldnt get the o ring to seal correct, a thin film of silicone stopped it , seemed the ring was a different thickness as what it needed !!!!
