My pal Gary got to handcrank this old girl for the first time in who knows when. She is still a little stiff but cranks by hand. Took her for a spin around the barn and the drive train is quiet as a mouse in all gears and reverse. The clutch is adjusted perfect. She steers like a new B. She still is totally naked except for some primer on her bare bones. Restoring the rusty dented tin work and the serious painting comes next. Everything you can see from the radiator shell assembly to the drawbar will be vintage and correct as possible for a early 71 year old 38B. The little I did to lend a hand in making it happen was almost as good as if it was mine.
I wish I could post pictures. I had that down pat on the old forum with Photobucket. I'm a slow learner.
I want to thank Doc and Jim Danforth for comming up with special parts. I also want to thank two Texans, Jim Cockran from Austin who had a usable very early B block and Rudy Smith from Lindale for the very early B final drive assemblies and rear hubs. Without those key parts too much of B751 would not be the correct age.

Ken: When I read posts like this, I miss my B. I was thinking about it the other day. That B and a Ca is the only really nice tractors I have sold, and although they both went to good homes, I still miss them. Tell Gary to take good care of my old pal, and Mark L. take care of my baby CA. Dave.

Not to worry Dave. The 46B you restored is in great hands. Gary is a excellent keeper of AC history. I hope you get to see his latest rescue effort. Three 38s donated major components to keep this old girl alive. I can't count all the little spare parts from other various sources. The tappets in the original engine looked like wine cups. Hard to believe it actually ran long enough to scoop out that much steel. The cam had no lift lobes left.

Ken or GA; I used to live in Longview and met you Ken at the Henderson show back in 2004 or 2005. Live over south of Fort Worth and a friend of mine in Nacodoches called recently. Mentioned he still had the B's and I believe a C that have been near the road for some time. Non runners, but plenty of good parts; dare say you could make a runner out of one or two of them and late 30's/early 40's (B's) as I recall.
Contact me if interested.
