Does anyone know the approximate weight of the frame rails? I want to remove mine, one side at a time, to do some cleaning and fix broken bolts in the steering block. Can this, removing / installing rail, be a one man job? Any recommendations on supporting the drive line?
Thanks Jeff

Jeff, one man should be able to do this. I would believe that the drive line would be supported by the other rail if you are only removing one rail at a time.

Be shure to put blocks and , or jack to suppott the engine. If you dont when you remove one rail the other will twist.

I just took the left frame rail off a 45 diesel the other day, I put blocking and a hyd jack under the clutch housing to support the weight while the rail is off, then took all the bolts out and used a pry bar and pried it off. The two bolts that hold it to the diff casting can be miserable to get out and may break off. you have to unhook the brake return spring too. Its about 50-60 lbs. HTH |
