How hard is it to replace the housing where the PTO Gear Box attaches to? It looks like 4 bolts on each side and it should drop out. I have a chance to buy a WD45 that has a hole in the housing right above the PTO gear box. This is the section where the PTO Gear Box attaches to. The owner claims it got hit hard by a log when he was brush hogging.

I'm thinking you are talking about the transmission housing. You'll have to remove the transmission. If there is a hole in the side of it, you will more than likely need some new internal parts. Might be best to have a donor tranny to swap out so you don't have to take all the shafts and gears out.
231. R & R TRANSMISSION. Drain oil from torque tube, transmission and differential housing. Support tractor under torque tube and rear portion of main frame and transmission. Remove rear wheels and final drive assemblies as outlined in FINAL DRIVE section, and differential and bevel ring gear unit as outlined in DIFFERENTIAL s e c t i o n . Remove drawbar, battery, battery carrier and power take-off shaft. Remove steering column to transmission housing retaining cap screws. Disconnect brake pedal rods and engage transmission clutch. Remove rear platform and power lift arms and shaft. Remove main frame to transmission retaining screws. Remove nuts retaining transmission to torque tube. Roll transmission housing away from torque tube |

The PTO is attched to the torque tube, not transmission.
Do the same steps above and then unbolt the torque tube from the clutch housing and make the change. Not a lot of internal stuff to mess with like in the transmission. Edited by Gary in Texas - 20 Jun 2011 at 6:19pm |

Thanks, wasnt sure what that section was called as it is the section the PTO gear box attaches to. So when you remove the torque tube, you dont have to mess with any of the transmission. SHould it drop right out.

Pretty sure it's not going to "drop" straight out/downward.

Not hardly a "drop-in"......you have to seperate the rearend from the torque housing at the battery box location and roll it backwards 3 to 5 feet and then pull the torque housing rearward about 12 inches.

Sorry for the bad info. I was reading the manual and looking at the WC transmission picture.

Correct, no disassembly of the transmission assembly other than "spltting" it away from the torque housing.

I live in Punxsutawney. Basically all I would need is the housing as the gears look fine. PM and I will possibly buy it off you. Thanks.

before you get too involved, take the cover off over the hand clutch, and find out which one of the linkage pins are missing in the hand clutch.also how much damage to the pto intermediate gear...
