for my new clutch in Diamond, my D15 II. Two years ago my friends split her and installed a new clutch. It was an aftermarket rebuilt I believe. I am finally getting around to using her and discovered today the clutch slips badly. I tested and it is indeed the main clutch slipping, not the hi-lo. Two years ago I was informed that replacement D15 II clutches would not work correctly which I told my buddy who replaced it and he said he always had good luck as he has reclutched probably 100 of them over the years. So...can the fingers I see looking up through the inspection hole be adjusted to help? I have 1.5 inches of free clutch pedal. Or does it have to come apart again? If so, what will I have to do to solve the problem? My buddy said he put in both the clutch lined disc and the pressure plate new and of course bearings. I just hooked her up to the haybine, put her in 4th gear with the pto engaged, held the brakes and let out the foot clutch. The thing just slipped, didn't move forward and pto didn't turn either.   Thanks, Dana

A D15 series 2 came with a four-button clutch disc to hold the HP of the 160 cube engine. If it has a "relined" disc, that will not hold the torque/HP that a button disc will. On a positive note, you need to again put it in fourth gear with the hand clutch in neutral and foot clutch released and see if will kill the engine.....if it does, you can surely use it to get some work done....if it doesn't, your foot clutch is even weaker than I thought.

Captain,
My brother has a neighbor that put a new clutch in his D15 Series II for him.  About  1 day with it and it was  slipping again. Neighbor in his wisdom went aftermarket.  He finally called Sandy Lake and got an industrial rated clutch for a D-15 Series II emphasis on heavy duty.  Put that one in and she was fine.
Aftermarket won't cut it on D15 tractors.
Hope that helps.  I know it is not what you want to hear, but best to split it and put in the right thing.

This may have happened when installing the clutch disc - the disc is in backward - I done this once on my 180 AC ; got in a hurry , didnt pay attention and put the disc in backward ; it would move but it wouldnt pull much without slipping ; broke it into ; put the disc in right and - waaaalaaaa  perfect !!! I,m not real familiar with a 15 - so dont know if this could happen , but you never know

Captain, The problem is most all the clutches AGCO or after market are wrong. I went thru the same problem until I found the cause, the disc is not correct thickness for pressure plate. It lets fingers lay too low. People adjust them to correct height and it is too weak and no time till fingers will rub the throwout bearing constantly. Send your clutch and pressure plate to Rick Corder that post here. He worked with me to alleviate the problem. Current rebuilders will use the published info and it is incorrect. Rick will fix you up, he has done several for me an is aware of the problem. A button clutch may hold better ,but a disc will allow you to feather it out. HTH Tracy Martin

You must also have the flywheel turned. The button clutches tear them up. Bob

If the flywheel was machined, was it machined to correct specs? Had the same problem with a D-21
Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed
