Just started rescuing a 1948 Wc that has two trees growing in it.  Counted 27 growth rings which is about right.  The wife and I have been married 25yrs and I dont remember the trees being there when we first met.  Her dad always talked about restoring it.  Well, I am now a disabled vet that cannot work and needs a hobby.  Should see the pictures, it is a sight.  So, let the fun begin!

Welcome to the best tractor forum on the internet. I hope you took pictures before you cut the trees down. Everybody wants to see pictures. I didn't have my camera when we hauled Lena out of the timber but found out later the Son in Law had one with him. I didn't get pictures I should have gotten. I only had to cut a 3 inch Mulberry off that was up through the draw bar bracket.
By the way, my Dad chewed Red Man ever since I could remember.

I do have  pictures and will get them posted as soon as get them off the camera.
We even got a couple of pics of the grand baby (6mos old) sitting on it.  Thought that would be something to talk about when she gets older.  We still havent got all the tree out. Still need to cut the trunks from underneath.  My buddy, who is also a disabled vet, helped and we each wore ourselves out.  It was a fun day though.  I chewed Red Man for years and is the reason I got the nickname.  It is a long and funny story, but is also how I got my injury that now plagues me with pain.

Wow, that's pretty wicked looking, might have to do some disassembly or light a fire to get rid of that.

Like I said, Let the fun begin!
I see it as a challenge that I must meet.  I am also working on a 1965 Allis Chalmers Big 10 Garden Tractor that I picked up in Enid, Oklahoma for a $100.  It is a complete little tractor that is currently in parts to be painted.  It will be done soon.

I have an update on the tractor.  We chipped wood away from the serial number and got a real surprise.  It turns out that this is actually a 1939 Rc number 4158.  This is kind of exciting for me.  It also turns out that parts are easy to find because this tractor was built using existing Allis parts.  It is nice to find out that this tractor is more rare that first thought, even better to find out that parts are readily available.

That is  a neat  find.  I would  leave it  the  way you found it , and find someting else to restore.  Take  that to a show and see it draw a crowd.  Tony

Welcome to the forum! If I had to pick one tractor that I would like to have for just show purposes, it would have to be an RC. Add the fact that it has a tree growing up THROUGH it, and that would be the MOST AWESOME show tractor I could imagine. Like Tony said, cut the tree off at the ground, then find a way to get the top section off without toppling it on the hood. Leave it sticking up a couple of feet. Put some decent tires and rims on it and free up the axles, brakes, and steering so it will move. Might even get it to run, though you would have to come up with something different for the clutch and throttle. Bet that would draw a crowd with the tree still in the middle of it. Drive THAT in the parade! LOL!
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

You might want to get that one in the front there completely out of it. That one would be hard to steer around. LOL!
I know the way you feel. I would be even more drawn to that job to see it get done just because of the challenge of it. I salute you sir, for having the will and perseverence to undertake this, and can't wait to see the progress pics.
What kind of trees do ya'll have out there? The ones we have here don't seem to grow around and into things as bad as those do. Kinda like play-doh, only harder to clean off.

OMG -- when you said trees growing through it, I did not envision how big they really are. A picture woth 1000 words. Ya got a real  project there, but sounds like you are having fun with the challenge. Keep us posted -- want to see how you come out. An RC - neat.

Yep, i'm thinking a little carving chainsaw would come in really handy there. Just slice it out a little at a time. Be careful. Have fun. Post pictures of it.

We have found that the trans housing has been cracked by the tree growing up through and applying pressure to the drive train.  I have checked around and found a welder that says he can stop drill the crack and weld it back up after the wood is removed.  I am sure glad it is the trans and not the block.  Wonder what else is under the wood?
