doesnt necessarily have to be directed at a specific manufacturer, but i really want double hydrolics on my JD 4010 which has the standard single... do i need to replace (and will it work??) the hydrolic pump and put in one with double and just add a second lever? i really want to run the rakes ect. on this tractor but single hydrolics dont allow for much!

I guess you could add the second remote valve thats under the hood, the dash mounted lever and all the correct plumbing hardware to make it look original. Another option would be to gat a spliter valve that uses electric coils to switch from one outlet to another. Your supply and return to this valve would be the current outlet that you have on the tractor. Fasse is the name of the company that makes these valves.

The factory valve for your single outlet is under the hood, toward the back of the hood on the left hand side as you are sitting in the seat. A 4010 or early 4020 that came from the factory with dual outlets has two valves mounted there, one on top the other. I cant remember if those valves bolted together and shared ports or if extertnal lines connected them together. A trip to the salvage yard should yield you all the pieces you need to make yours a factory dual valve set up. If you take your hood off and move your lever you will see what the valve assembly looks like.

Full system pressure and flow is available at the elbow near the brake pedals that feeds the three point under the seat. Replace that elbow with a T. The proper place for the return is the transmission oil filter cover. You drill and tap that cover or buy one specifically made for a 2640 with the hole already made. That factory cover prevents the return oil from hitting the paper filter element directly and may be a better idea.

Using a CLOSED center valve or valve stack, you can add as many valves as you want getting pressure and returning with those two points. Many open center valves can be converted to closed center. I tap those points on my early 4020 for loader and back hoe. I use needle type flow control valves in each circuit because I don't need 22 gpm for either the loader or the back hoe. 5 gpm gives a lot better control with clumsy fists on the valve handles.

The best place to buy the T is a Deere dealer. Take the elbow with you to get the right one, their parts books are often misleading. Its o-ring to the case, and JIC flare to the external pipe. My T is o-ring to two JIC flares. All the plumbing in this picture is rated at 3000 psi plus.

Pioneer makes a good double hose coupler that you can connect and disconnect under pressure for about $100. Last I checked, enough scrap yard pieces to add a factory SCV ran about $500 and thats been several years ago without the special pipes for passing under the floor deck.

Were I to add another remote valve, I'd mount a shelf on the right fender and put the valve under that shelf with the handle reversed and run the hoses down from the valve.

Like I said, I'd build a shelf on the right fender, about elbow high. I'd mount the valve on the bottom side of the shelf with the lever reversed to stick above the shelf. That way the hoses for the loads go down and usually the supply and return are on the sides of the valve and can use elbow fittings.

A few years ago, Sloan Express had the best price on that Pioneer dual coupler. But check Baum Hydraulics too for both that coupler, hoses, and closed center valves or open center valves and conversion kits.
