I just bought a 1975 7040 with power director after I started using it the alternator or "Gen" light started flickering. Sometimes I can hear a faint click from behind the dash when it does it too. It progressively got more frequent and then my batteries were dead when I when to start it. So today got a new alternator and put it in. Got it running and everything seemed fine, no flickering light and the batteries were charging up. Untill a couple hours later it started flickering again! It tends to flicker more often and more brightly when the engine is running fast. Any ideas? I need some advice.
Thanks

New alt may be bad. Hook a volt gauge to the big post on back of alt, should show 13.5+ volts running. MACK
