I went out to my 7050 today to hook onto a disc and it wouldnt move. I just moved it a week ago to mow where it was parked, and moved it right back. When I start it I have steering and hydraulics so it must not be the torque limiter which was new a couple hundred hours ago. I can move the gearshifter through all the gears with no grinding or anything so it must not be turning in there. I pulled the dipstick and listened and it sounds like something might be turning in there but its hard to tell with the engine goin. Anybody got an idea? Wet clutch or broken shaft?

Maybe a stuck cable/valve?  Intuition would tell me even if the clutches had a catastronphic failure, there would still be some drag causing the gears to turn some, so you would at least feel some grinding if you tried to put it into gear without pushing in the clutch.  That makes me want to think the transmission brake is activated.  Either that or you have a shaft that has completely snapped or something has completely stripped.  That doesn't seem very likely for a tractor that drove fine when parked.

I kind of looked in there to see if the linkage was working but I'll take that bottom panel off when I get a chance. I just backed it up 10 feet and then moved it back forward so there wasnt any strain on it to break a shaft I wouldnt think but I wasnt sure.

How about what is the temp outside, maybe ice in a line somewhere?  If all you did was mow last time, and it parked fine, I hate to think major repair first.

My 7000 acted like that sometimes.  It was like it lost its hydraulic prime somehow.  If I took the top of the T off on the hydraulic pump, then primed it a little, it would get it going sometimes.  Once or twice after I let it set for a while, it would work later. I dont know if a 7050 and a 7000 are similar or not, but good luck!

if you have the push buttons on the floor, make sure they are not stuck half way, push one or the other all the way down

Push the hi range button, see if it moves.    I agree with Mack, sounds like splines on the PD clutch shaft went south.

 Ive tryed shifting the power director buttons and nothing. The cable is moving on the clutch end I can see. Its 70 degrees outside now so it wouldnt be froze. The dipstick is in the operating so it has oil, but Ill see if its not primed. I dont know why it would have striped the splines last week because it was only running at an idle when I moved it, and was working fine when I shut it off.

Step#1. Full of oil underneath the seat?? #2. Does the power steering work with engine running? #3. Step on high side button and if it stays down and returns to low when you push in the clutch pedal, that means the trans pump is working, as is the clutch valve. #4. If all three are "Yes", the splines are gone on the Low range housing of the Power Director clutch.

        Check the Hi-Lo Park lever.   Sometimes the lever will move back and forth but will not shift into gears.  The cable may have broken or the clamp that holds the cable under the cab may be loose not allowing enough motion to get it in gear.  There is an arm in the console that allows the hi low shift to move instead of park cable.  I have had this arm hang up from rust or the spring is weak or broken and the tractor will not shift. 
      Any of these problems will be a cheap fix .  Good luck.

A similar thing happened to our 7060 P/S once, and it turned out to be the high low cable, broke.

Hope that's what it is, other internal issues, well you know.......

It is full of oil, the pto,3pt,and steering all work so it cant be the torque limiter, and with the high button pushed when I push in the clutch it takes it about 5 to 10 seconds half throttle and the button goes back down. I pulled the floor up and took the top of the transmission off, and when I start it and open it up theres a little bit of oil that squirts out around a gear, and it will barely turn for a second real slow without any of the gears engaged. It doesnt make any metal on metal noises like if the splines would be striped, but maybe it wouldnt make any noise? Whats the chances of the clutches not getting oil to them? My trans press light goes out when I start it so the pump must be working. What could be preventing flow between the pump and clutches? Could the powerdirector shift valve be the problem? Over the winter blading snow I noticed that the clutch didnt really want to stop it when you were backing up in high, and it wouldnt shift the button down when you pushed the clutch in. Sorry for the long post

Power director clutch hub splines are gone as others have said.May need the shaft replaced too.

Im hoping that its not stripped out, but since I have a shift valve on a parts tractor Im going to try that first before I get into splitting it again after 200 hours. The bad part is I had it parked out next to the road since its "for sale" and now it wont move.

Yeah, I bought it at a sale with the center broke out of the torque limiter and put a new one in it. I dont know much history on the tractor but I would say its had a hard life.

Whenever you install a new T.L. disc, you must run it out the door in 2nd high, high at full throttle and jam on the brakes real hard to get it to slip and "center" itself on the flywheel. Failure to center it will tear up a new disc or finish off badly worn splines on the clutch hsg.

After I got it out of the shop I opened it up and let out on the clutch while standing on the brakes. I did it 3 times and let it kill the tractor. I think thats what it said I was supposed to do in the shop manual. I raked hay last summer with it and bladed snow all winter so its had some hours put on it since then. When your talking about the clutch hub splines your talking about the power director clutch, inside the clutch basket? Its been a while since I rebuilt the one on my 7060 so Ive forgot how the 2 gears work.

I had a 7030 that did that, was stripped splines on a shaft but can't remember which one, was 20 years ago. seems like it was one inside another or something along that line, took a while to find it.

I played around with my 7050 again tonight and found that with the engine off the gears on the engine/clutch side of the transmission turn freely, but when you start it they won't move at all nomatter how hard you pry. Would that be normal or could it be disengaged with the trans brake on? Seems like if the splines were stripped it should turn easy regardless right? Also if I split it can I pull the powerdirector clutches out without removing the transmission, or will the little coupler fall inside the big one in the range transmission?
