Thanks for shareing, I can remember that Dad tried a 6060 out back in 1980 or 81 I think, it had FWA and it was impressive, we had a 175 that he pulled 4-16" with and it was in the dry time of the year, we had some wheat stubble that he had been plowing and the ditch bank was so hard that the plows hardly would go in the ground, and when they did the 175 would just sit there and spin.
The dealer brought the 6060 out and he hooked it on the plow and went to ditch bank and put them in and it did the same thing spun, then the dealer put it in FWD and WOW impressive no problem, Dad just couldn't see $22,000 then he said, when he bought the 175 in 1974 for like $6500 new, just didn't add up.

It certainly is interesting to watch, especially seeing the charts. We have a used 6080 fwa now since I started running the farm. When my unlce was running it before my birth he had both a JD 2440 and JD 2940 fwa. This was mainly because the AC dealer had closed and they wanted a tractor with a local dealer. After I was old enough to drive they were upgraded to the equivilant replacments of a 2550 and 2950 fwa. Having driven the 2950 a lot I can definately tell you the 6080 uses less fuel as the graph shows. Of course the 2940/2950 used a 6 cylinder engine to make the same power as a 6080. Also, I swear the 2550 uses more fuel cutting hay than the larger 185. Mike |

Really nice tractor!
I'm sure they were ahead of the competition back then but I'm also sure they caught up by now. Wonder what they would have now if they were still in business? Probably China built like everything else sad...sad.

Nice video. I would have to say that the 6080 is the better tractor. 6060 Only had an 8 speed that was only partially synchronized. 6080 Had a fully synchronized 12 speed along with larger tires. Due to poor sales, 6060 production ended in 1983 and replaced with the 6070.

I know a guy who had over 7000 hrs on his 6080 FWA 10 years ago and he used for everything including the heavy tillage as it was his big tractor. He delivered oxygen and acetylene to the shop every week. Now he has a couple bigger 8000 series but still uses the 6080 as far as I know. He loved that tractor the way he talked about it.

They are very nice tractors and a great video too. A guy came in the shop where I work last year to get some filters for a 6070 that the farmer he works for has and he said he figured out why Allis went out of business. I said OK, why. He said they made the tractors so good you couldn't wear them out.JP

Dad sold a few 6060's and alot of 6080's and AC replaced the engines in most of them at least once onder warrenty. The thrust on the transmission put to much preasure on the crank bearings and ruined the block. Then in the end i don't know if AC enginers come with it or Duetz Enginers figured it out but they sent out thrust bearing kits for the front of the crankshaft.
So as long as you keep that thrust bearing greased they will last. I can't help wondering how much of that warrenty expense contributed to the end of AC.
They still realy are a great tractor.

That was an Allis fix for the tractors that were all ready sold. The later ones had the heavier thrust bearing internally I'm pretty sure.
