Yesterday a CA owner at the Canton TX Show and Swap asked me how to properly mount a alternator or a generator on his CA engine. He was not able to figure out why his engine block had no mounting holes for a generator bracket like everyone else does.
After a look see, I pointed out that the Engine SN # R 2xxx K and a casting # ending with a 11 tells me the block could have been from a early 39 handcrank low octane 60H Power Unit. His block was cast before block molds were changed making provision for a genererator to be mounted to the block and this old buddy was used to replace the original CA engine before he got the tractor.
Could it also have been a dual fuel engine out of a RC? Or. Were all the RC blocks in 39 able to be outfitted with generators?

Power units. How do you date them? Are there Serial # breaks for Power Units by Year?
The BE116, and the CE,R, CR125 engine SN prefixes were all used in Power Units. Is this Correct?
The 3 1/4 bore BE engine was standard in all B tractors before B tractor 64501, 1943. The 3 3/8 bore engines were available during the same time period in power units, RCs and in the C . Is that Correct?
