Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 12 volt generator. I installed a 12volt gen off of an A2 gleaner on my WD and used a new voltage regulator from Steve(NJ). I have no existing wiring to look at so I need to know how to wire this thing. It will be negative ground as well. Thanks
Adam

6 volt or 12 volt generators are wired the same, and usually are positive ground. Alternators are negative ground. Bob

Don't start the tractor up till you flash the generator. Generators can charge either pos or neg ground and need to be polarized for your set-up before operating the engine or you might let the smoke out of them.

Charlie, I installed a new volt reg on a D17 last year and had to flash it for neg ground. Works great now, but this tractor doesn't have any wires left (did have an alternator on it) so I had nothing to go off of. If you have the WD45 style key switch where does the "L" wire go to? Thanks Adam |

The "L" or load terminal on the regulator can be used to power the electrical accesories (lights, ign coil, etc) or it can be left unused and draw the current needed from the same post on the ammeter that the "BATT" wire is connected to. Not all tractors used a load terminal. Edited by Brian Jasper co. Ia - 03 Apr 2011 at 3:52pm |

Brian, for proper ammeter indication loads should be on the post of the ammeter opposite the one that goes to the battery. So that loads draw through the ammeter.
