I am going to put new rims and tires on my 45 this Spring and am doing some homework. Going with 16.9 x 28.
Firestone 23.. good tires, now the the SAT II. Anyone have a set? Just read an article about soft sidewalls. I have a bias set of the original 23"s , 18.4 38's on my 200 that are sweet. Goodyear... bought out by Titan. Dont have or never run a set. Local COOP has a set of BKT?? The AS 504 LOOKS to be something I am interested in.. I am open to any comments because at $600 and up for a small tractor tire I never want to buy another set. I really like the firestone SAT II. Dealer here had a set in the shed that appear to be pretty nice. If they pull like the old ones their look and functionality will compliment my old tractor well. |

I just bought BKT 14.9X28 last week was $860 for the pair. Had the old tires removed then I ordered new Rims for $700 and it'll be another $110 for tubes when the rims get here. for now the tractor sits on blocks. The BKTs look just like the Akuret tires that I put on the other tractor. they are an 8 Ply tire side walls are pretty stiff. The Akuret tires work well. I put goodyear dynatoqure II tires on my CA I like them better but Our goodyear dealer went out of business. My $800 tractor should be worth more now Right?

I have the Titan produced Goodyears on my D17. Since both Goodyear (Titan) and Firestone are produced in Des Moines, I guess I chose the GY's cause they were a little less $$.

For pulling I prefer the Firestone F&R 151, The new tire that replaces it is not impressive for a puller. I would probably look hard at titan tires.

AAron I sold many of the titan, firestone, goodyear, akurett, kleiber, and some brands I dont even recall. If your going to buy American made tires go with the Firestones. They will hold up better, last longer and out pull most other brands of bias ply tires. I was disapointed when they dropped the all traction field and road line but came to respect the new SAT's. 1 exception if you are going to use your tractor for tractor pulling on a hard packed track, the bars are too close together to get a real good bite.

brother put new rims on his D17 for 16.9x28 and now when you move the tires all the way in they hit the fenders. The old rims with the same tires didn't do that. Might want to check that and the holes on the rim rail for the stops are closer together than original.

On my CA and Dad's ford 6700 we put Goodyear Duratorques on it. Traction's pretty good and I like how goodyears hold up.

I have 14.9 on my 45 and am wondering how I am going to set it up to plow this year. With three 14's I used to set the tires all the way in to get the furrow to fill in right. How do you guys set up your 45's to plow with over sized tires?

Jesse, probably need a 3-16 plow just to make room for the tire.

Nah the tire still drops down in the furrow fine. Just has the tractor too far over to allow the plow to roll the sod over into the furrow properly. I would like to find a 3-16 though.
