Bought a White 6180 for planting no till. I am replacing the coulters that are mounted on the unit but I can also mount them on the frame with the fertlizer coulter hub mount. I sometimes plant in a lot on cover like clover and rye grass. My old planter (Deutz Allis 385) had them mounted on the frame and planted very good. Will I be just as well off on the unit or should I mount them on the frame. They will be the 23 wave coulter. Would just like to hear some input on this. Thanks

I have a White 6100. I mounted Yetter no-till coulters on the row unit and have not had any trouble with it. I have Rawson coulters mounted on the frame for fertilizer. If I drop it in sod ground the only thing I have any trouble with is covering the seed, as I only have the single press wheel. It will cover enough to where you cant see the seed but will not close the trench completely. I wouldnt trade the planter for any other brand. It is accurate and gives me very little, if any trouble.

I have the two V press wheels, I think I will mount the coulters on the unit and if the unit rides up I can mount it on the frame where the fertilizer coulters go.
I like the White but it has big shoes to fill to replace the D.A. 385 that I've been planting with. But I believe it will do a very good job. Thanks

Kevin, very surprised to hear of you leaving the 385 in the dust! Hope you have good luck with the white. I've heard alot of good things about the white, but don't have any 1st hand experience. Darrel

I do have the 4 down pressure springs on them.
Darrel I still believe the 385 is as good a no till as the white but the 6180 is a 16 row and will match my 8 row corn head better than the 12 row 385, also it has the hyd. powered fan and not electric like the 385. Are you still in the market for a 385?

Kevin, I've still been looking somewhat. A neighbor wants to go in on a planter with me, and he is a die hard green man, and not Deutz green either. Do you still have the 385? It would probably be a good one for me, but there's a long trail between Alabama and ND. Darrel

BLee you mean as in Deutz 385 green? I can say it has been a very good planter and I do wish the White had the quad disk. I can say when planting got tough I was usually planting for some of them folks around here that own them ugly green planters. The weather down here has been very good the last couple of weeks, (tater plantin time) but we have had around 20 inches of snow, but it wasn't to bad, sure was a lot better than ice. So come on down, with $2.00+ cotton we may just bring them 880 strippers back out of retirement. |

Darrel, Record high. I believe it was around .50 to .60 cents around a year ago. But I it has been three years since I have planted any cotton and will probably still stick with wheat, corn and beans. I'm just better set up for grain. But with the Boll Weevil eradicated around here it sure has made raising cotton a lot easier.
