Found one for sale here in Ohio and I know really nothing about them.  This one is a wide front, snap coupler, has been rebuilt, tires ok on rear, new on front, rims are good front & rear, paint is nice original.  The front grill is dented on the top.  Everything seems to work.  They are asking 4800.00 which I thought was a little steep.  Any idea's or comments??  I'll try to get a pic of it posted this weekend.

Larry - were you able to check tranny for jumping-out-of-gear issues?

Larry, most of the D series tractors were plagued with under-engineered trannys. As a result, after years of use the tranny would pop out of gear, usually 3rd, sometimes 2nd. Best test is to drive it and check all the gears for this. Sometimes they will stay in gear as long as weight is on the tranny, so check running downhill as well. I THINK that the some of the D15 series (there were several) came with re-engineered tranny that was mostly immune to this problem. Others on here will know better than I!

Also check the Power Director - should snap in nice and tight on both high and low ranges. Beyond that, check the usual stuff (water in oil, ugly noises, power, etc).

To me, $4800 is very high for a Series I.  A few months ago I bought a 66 series II with factory 3 point and full hydraulic AC 400 loader for less than that.  For what you are looking at, I would not go over $3000.
