Anybody have any experience with them? Hard to work on? Crawlers of that size really a whole other ball game or quite easy? Parts available?

The Cat Twenty Two was built in two different series. The series is determined by the serial number prefix. They are the 2F and the 1J series. At the time Cat built these crawlers they would not let at serial number run go above 9999, so when they got to 9999 they would start another serial number prefix. So 2F9999 is the same as 1J1. I can not remember the number of them made but it is over 13000 and there are a lot of them out there. There were many parts changes over the production run. A couple of different mags, both are Eisemanns, the model CT and CM. If the Eisemann is missing and you are going to restore the tractor be prepared to pay for a good CT or CM Eisemann. The undercarriage between the PV series Fifteens, the 8C Twenties and the Twenty Twos will interchange. Different part numbers are used and some of the castings look different. The sprockets will interchange on all except the late Twenty Two when the sprocket attaching design changed, and there late sprockets will interchange with the early D2s. Track chains will interchange from the PV series Fifteens to the end of the D2 run, you just have to watch how wide the pads are and how many links are in the chain. Valves rings and some of the gaskets were available form Cat a few years ago but I have not ask about them in a while. Used parts are out there but expect to pay good money for the rarer parts like the mags, early carbs, and the spark plug covers. They run very well and are easy to work on for a small crawler.
Thanks Ken
