There is a 310 mower at the local farm machinery auction and I was wondering if they were worth anything or were easy to restore. I only looked at it for a minute or two but it DOES have the 10hp Kohler engine in it. All the sheet metal seems to be there and in decent shape. I also noticed it has some sort of lift on the back of it, What is that?

I don't think it runs but at the same time I don't think it would take too much to get it running again. The part I thought was cool was that it still had the AC Outdoor Products sticker on the side of it.

What should one bid? I know pictures would be helpful but I went with my friends straight from school to go look at it.

Is there anything else I should know about these mowers?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Parts are hard to find, these are TRUE A-C lawn tractors not affiliated with Simplicity in any way. When we restored ours we tracked down a new muffler for it at a cost of $189!!. Decals can be another problem I have yet to find a complete set, I think hood decals are available and thats it. If its not running I would not go more than $350 as long as everything is there. Ours is a 1971 bought new by great-gramps and mowed until 2001. We were fortunate enough that we needed no decals at all, it was always taken care of. I have a parts unit 310 if you run into needing anything. These were tuff little lawn tractors. Check under the seat to see if the plastic tool tray is still there, hard to find as well, I have an extra, I'll try and post a picture.

The lift on the back maybe whats called a sleeve hitch. If you described what it looked like I could tell you more.

If the motor thats on it is a 10 horse its a K241 and parts are plentiful and decently priced. You can't get a complete rebuild kit except for crank bearings for around $90.

I sorta collect old case GTs and have rebuilt over 15 different K series Kohlers. They are
easy and cheap to work on.
A pic would really helpful in deciding what to offer for it. I really think most people are nuts for paying what they do for some of these old GTs somtimes.

Does it have a mower deck with? If it does make sure you look at the mandrels when deciding what the offer. Too many times I have went to look a a mower deck for one of my case GTs and have found the mandrels to be way beyond repair and news ones are bringing in over $200 each.

Otherwise I almost enjoy working on these old garden tractors more then I use to like working on my pulling truck.

Well to tell you the truth. It is about in the same condition as this one except the paint is a little worse and the hood decals are needing replaced.

As for the lift it looks like this.
OH, It DOES have the mower deck.

I have a 410 That the same as a 310  I have one that looks the same as the photo above and I gave 75 for it no deck. The only problem it has is it runs for 2 to 3 mins and dies but you can save i with the choke.  Havent figured out what the problem is but the kohler 241 carb is hard to find parts for.  I would say your safe on bidding 150 max.

I've had a few of the 300/400 series. They are good tractors but much different "looking" than the Simplicity models.  On your 10hp model a cub cadet muffler can be modified easy enough to work and they can be had aftermarket for around $40.  Everything for the engine should be easy to find, though genuine kohler parts are through the roof.  If you are happy with aftermarket you can get by really cheap. The bevel gear box and trans are the same ones used in Simplicity tractors and some internal parts are still available through a Simplicity dealer.  Good rust-free mower decks are hard to find, as are gas tanks.  There are now a couple sources for decals.  There is a source on ebay (clickitandstickit) and then Tony Gilletto @ maple-hunter decals also has some 300/400 decals, though I have yet to see a 100% complete decal set, if you have originals someone can reproduce them.
