Dad and I bought an 82 L2 with a pacer Monitor back in December. the shoe had been replaced and the paddles are missing. We're just wondering if it's worth spending the money to get it working. Does anybody have any experience with it and any input would be appreciated.
PS. the wires were cut which would lead me to believe it wasn't working at that time and probably needs the control module rebuilt as well. I would also be interested in a used set of paddles and wires if anybody had one to to part with. thanks in advance, Derek in MO |

I personally wouldn't waste the time and money getting it working. Just get the combine set right by checking behind it a few times and go. We've got a working one on our m2, and some days I wish it didn't work when the father-in-law runs it. He's got er set very sensitive, and if the needle even flickers, he slows down. In a nutshell, he doesn't get much done in a day. Our L2 doesn't have one, and don't miss it. Just my opinion, though. Darrel

I have to agree somewhat with Darrel. The best monitor is you checking behind the combine. I am not sure of the reason, but I see a lot of heavy, green rows around here from new combines with fancy monitors! That being said, I have thought of installing an aftermarket monitor in my M, but wonder if it is worth it.

I would disagree it's nice to have it if your pushing the combine when rain clouds are brewing even if it's dialed in.

On Gleaner conventionals, just keep an eye on the return grain sample, via the right window. After you get the machine set you can tell how you are doing by watching what the tallings look like. The pacer monitor will confirm this for you but is not necessary. HTH, Mike

thanks for the input. I always ran the F2 by the return elevator but thought it might be handy to have one more source.
