What are everone's opinion on putting electronic ingition in the D-Series tractors? Can you tell the difference? I had one person tell me that you can make them idle a lot slower and increase fuel economy but wanted other peoples opinions. |

Steve and a couple of others can tell you all you need to know. That will be the way I do my next tune up on a D 10. If it is a working tractor, you cannot go wrong with electronic ignition and converting to a 12v +ground /alternator.

I put a Petronix electronic ignition on my D17 IV. No need to put an alternator Joe. Have't tried idling it down but should work given that it is more precise than points. Can really comment about fuel economy, but it does give a few more ponies. The tractor dynoed at a solid 58 hp (could have hit 60 too I heard).

I have a Pertronix unit and Flamethrower coil on my CA and Oliver 60 and agree with them being easier to start and run better. No idea on power increase, but I suppose it's possible. One thing to look at is the distributor shaft bushing. If it's loose, the timing will not be very stable.

Yes, It works great on my D-17. Starts good and runs good, I had to reset the plug gap though because mine were to close.

We've sold a lot of them.My only advise is to be cautious when charging. I blew 2 before talking to my pertronix supplier. He told me to never use my 100 amp jump box while cranking. Now I charge, shut it off, and then start. Much better.
I do not recommend them on the 6 volt systems. The window of operating voltage is too small. 12 Volts is fine.
