I have recently bought my first Allis Chalmers equipment. It is a 1945 C with a Marvel Schebler Carb on it. I cannot find a number on the carb anywhere. I need to find the number so that I can order a rebuild kit for it. Was the number on a tag or the carb itself. If on the carb, where should I concentrate?

There should be a small tag attached with the #, probably held on with on of the bowl screws. Going from memory I think mine was on the back next to engine. Tim

If its a Marvel Schebler it has little round tag with a rivet or stud in the center of it. Its located on the right side of the carb ( the side with the throttle and choke linkage) and should start out with TSX....... My book claims that the model C came with a zenith 61AJ7 or 161J7 but it wouldn't be the first time this book was wrong.

Kevin !! If you have a 44 -C it could have a TSX154 Carb.
Tag should be on upper body facing air hose. Tony

I think it was the zenith carbs that had the tag attached to the bowl screws

Hey Guys, The rim where it attaches to the manifold says Marvel Schebler and that is the only marking on the carb. Someone apparently lost the tag before I got the tractor. The serial number on the tractor is 32768 which I believe is a '45 model from the serial number lookup on this website. There is an H on the bottom of the bowl and a small circle with a letter in it but I can't tell what the letter is. Kevin

you will find there is only 1 rebuild kit for Marvel carbs that fit C, B, & CA. the guts are the same. Bob

Let me offer a slightly different thought that may or may not help. How much are you replacing in your carb rebuild? If you are just doing gaskets, a good cleaning, float needle/seat and even throttle shafts, a kit for the number Tony mentioned will work. It's when you start wanting to replace power needles and such that is when the different models will come into play for tuning. HTH Ryan

Thanks Stu, Looks like maybe someone replaced the carb at some point with one that is incorrect. I guess the next best option is to buy the correct carb and put it back on the tractor. Looks like a Zenith 9705 might be the ticket if I can find one. Kevin

Chalmers Bob and Ryan(TN), Y'all may have just saved me a bunch of money. I am only doing a clean up and basic rebuild, nothing extensive. I am going to go the cheaper route first and get the kit Tony suggested from Tony and try that first. Last resort will be to replace the carb. My only fear is the drain plug on the bottom of the carb is broke off in the carb and mayh need to be replaced to get it really clean. Tractor sat for 10 years and is full of varnish. Have it soaking right now and hopefully can get it working again. Kevin

Just because they list only zenith, the marvel was used also. If it fits, it will work. It is a simple carb with a fixed main jet and other then replace shaft seals and a float valve, the bigest thing to do when rebuilding is clean, clean, and clean again. Sure some parts wear out, but mostly it will require a good cleaning. I never found one that couldn't be put back in service after a good cleaning. Bob

the plug that is broken is only a drain plug. It's not necessary to remove it to clean the carb. If you want to remove it, drill it out with a drill, (if you a have left hand bit , great). start with a small bit and as close to the center as possible, and keep inlarging it but stop before you hit the threads. then with a small chisel remove the remainder of the plug. It is a 1/8" ( or 1/4") pipe thread plug and can be gotten at any hardware store.
