I have a set of tire chains that I had used on my D15 when I had a loader on it.   Those tires were 13.6 x 26.   I had bought them as a bigger set and cut them down to what I needed, and they worked great.   Now I got rid of the loader on that tractor and put a loader on my D17 that has 18.4 x 28 tires on it.   After trying to find a used set of chains, I thought about retrofitting this set onto these wider tires.   Problem is when I set them on top of these tires which are much wider, the chains don't wrap down the sides of the tire enough to work.   The only way I thought of using them was to take the side chain that links all of them together and cut it apart and use two links from each side chain to extend down the sidewall some more and then attaching them all back together with some new chain for the sides.  I have all of the other pieces that I cut off of these chains when I shortened them up so I know I will have enough parts to make a new longer set, my only concern is if what I want to do will hold up.   These chains are the older style farm chains that have four links that come on an angle and all attach in the center with an oblong piece that locks them all together.   Would this work?   I can post some pictures of the chains sitting on the tires if this would help.
