Wanted: 904 Wobble Box

   In anticipation of a busy summer I have been whittling down my “projects” list this winter and have decided to tackle my 904 haybine wobble box rebuild which has been sitting for about 6 years.  One of my haybines came with the beat-up gear box as pictured on the right.  The one on the left was bought from a salvage yard to replace the one on the right, but I would like to have a good spare in the wings just in case.

As you can see all the ears have been broken off and when three were re-welded they were put on crooked.  So to fix it the ears would have to be re-broken and attached with a jig made from the good box on the left.  Also, the splines protruding from the bottom, on the main yoke are trashed as well and I would have to buy a new internal yoke and the drive arm which attaches to the bottom of the yoke.  With this in mind I am starting to entertain buying another salvaged box with good ears.  Basically, I have a guestimate on the repair work, and if another salvaged box is less I would prefer to go that route and keep this for spare parts (what’s good of it).  
If you note in the picture the box on the left is an updated version as it has strengthening ribs cast into all the ears.  If I can I would prefer to find one of those for sale but would be ok with a good condition original version.

	I have this NOS Housing that was one of last hanging around parts depot[s] a few years back. I bought with same thought of having back-up unit. I will stick my neck out and say there is probably not many of these around these day's. All said, I do not need it and woulkd like to recoup my $$. Happy to quote price if interested. This housing was/is for 390, but I think it may be same for 904. I also have a 390 w/wobble box out here that was sold/paid for years ago. I will call buyer and find out if his intentions have changed, I would consider parting it out for him if I can get the h**l out of here! See pic attached,Thanks

	If at first you don't succeed... For some reason pasting out of Word screws up the font color on the preview, when I adjust the font color on the AC page it previews good but the post is unreadable. When I left it alone on my third post it finally came out readable, go figure. As you can tell I have not posted many pictures since the new forum and can't remeber which code to use from photobucket anymore. 	Odd, I tried all four codes and neither one will automatically pull up the picture, what am I doing wrong?

	As added note, You probably already know this, couple of main reason's these ears get broke off is; Cutter bar/sickle not kept sharp then overworking the bolts that attach. Also special attentioon to mounting bolts to be sure they are kept tight. I know some people say the design was poor, this may be true, but it is possible to have good results with attention paid to machine.

	Chris, if you click on the link in my second post you can read my part number to say 572169. I see yours is 572170, so i am unsure if it will be a direct fit? One other note I have the old style box on a second 904 haybine with all ears intact, so I agree it is possible with proper maintenance. The problem with buying used of course is you don't know the history.

	I hear you. If I still owned the 390 out here in yard, I know for fact that I could not even give the machine away, sad, but true. I do know people running them like you are aware of the parts becoming hard to find in future and think like you [ xtra pts on shelf to support machine] ,very wise thinking. Good luck with the hunt.

	I just got word from Brenda at SLI that the original 904 wobble box #560411 supercedes to a 390 wobble box #572170 like you have with the addition of a 1/4" pipe plug. The curious thing is that the housing I have now (#572169) does not currently link back to a #560411, but does supercede to a #572170 along with a mysterious "L" housing #560410. Brenda can not come up with anything on that L-housing as to what it is, but I do know that the 572169 in my picture des bolt up to a 904. Also, the drive arm and main sheave are the same part numbers between a 904 and 390. In summary it would seem a 390 wobble box will bolt up to a 409. i think I would be interested in some of your parts. I have your number from previous correspondence, what is the best time to call you?

	I've seen people convert them over to John Deere wobbleboxes off of JD 800 swathers. Much easier to find parts for that box. I think it takes a little welding/cutting though.
