On the right hand side there are two bolts that connect the frame to the clutch housing and it will be on the clutch housing between the two bolts.  Should be 185 XXXXX

I thought the # was on the left side of the engine above the alternator? Thats where mine is. Is that the right serial number or is that the one for the engine?

Hunter the one above the alternator is the engine serial number.  Some cab frames will cover the SN on the bell housing and some won't.  We had a 185 with a Hiniker cab that did that but my Cozy Cab doesn't cover it.  Also some loader mounts can cover it too.

That would be on the right side looking from the front -- left side as you sit in the seat. At least, that's where mine is.

Engine SN is on the left of the engine as you sit in the seat, tractor SN is on the right.

...you can't chose for yourself which side is right or left. Cars to tractors its always "sitting in the seat" prespective

Depends on what kind of mounts the cab has.  If you stand looking at the tractor on the injector pump side you will see the frame running along the engine.  Follow that to the rear and you will see where it bolts to the clutch housing.  There are two bolts there and if you look on the clutch housing between the two bolts that's where the SN is.  If part of the cab frame is bolted there chances are you won't be able to see it.  If you could post a picture we could see for sure.
