What are you guys using to remove the top brake anchor pins on a b? Kind of hard to get a punch in there and drive it toward the tire......punch is at an odd angle. Thinking abought my air hammer??

I soaked mine with pb blaster for a few days, then then a short punch and 2lb hammer. Air hammer would be good. Pull the clips first. They get rust frozen to the brake bands also. Once they start coming out you can grab them with vice grips and twist and pull them.

Ditto - try to find a pair of pliers or vice grips skinny enough to fit between the brake band and side of the brake housing so you can twist those pins. That breaks them loose pretty quickly. Those cotter pins can be a pain too; if it's a newer tractor then the clips are easier. I used a punch and hammer also to help with the pins. Be patient and they'll come out, but fancier equipment should make it faster.

Drill the hole bigger.
![]() ![]() Kinda out of order but I only tried to remove one band before I decided it would be quicker by removing the final drive so I could do the cleanout at the same time.
After this one I started using a air hammer with a punch. Quicker with less effort.

Since you can get on them straight from the outside I always take a big punch and hammer and knock the pins inward first to loosen them. Then knock them out. |
