My wife had hers done November 18. It was done outpatient at 9 AM and we were on our way home at 3 PM. She had to go up and down a set of four stairs before she was released.
The next two days were tough. Quite uncomfortable and used pain meds, but by day four, she was controlling pain with Tylenol. She was getting around with a walker day two and three but only using a cane after that.
She did PT for three weeks and had a bit of a setback at PT (I think they pushed her too hard), but was released from PT after her 3 week checkup.
The only thing that bothers her now is trying to kneel. She is hoping to have her other knee done this fall.
My only advice to anyone would be to go to a big orthopedic practice to have it done. We travelled 3 1/2 hours to Syracuse for her surgery. They have very up-to-date equipment. The surgeon who did her surgery specializes in knees (he was doing 5 knee replacements that day). He only does knees. They have other specialists who do only hips, shoulders, etc. We have a local orthopod who does everything. I hear good things and horror stories from his patients.
