I took a couple of lift hooks off one of my snap coupler plows. Good thing I did - not much left of some of those bolts! I decided to take all my other ones off to check as well. They are all getting replaced. I would hate to see if one of those bolts failed while going down the road. Also switched out the bent over nails in the pins for proper roll pins. ![]() ![]() |

Thought they had a bushing inside link that bolt pinched down on and it took the wear?

I've seen my share of carriage bolts just like that. Good idea to just replace them, especially on a plow.
I love those bent over nails too!
Steve, they do have a bushing but it's the bolt that seems to wear. |

Yes, they do have bushings. They looked far better than the bolts. I did replace a few while I was changing the bolts though.

I would imagine those OEM bolts have three hash marks on the head, making them grade #5. Many carriage bolts have no marks making them grade #2. Just a note of caution when installing new hardware.

I should have mentioned that I buy grade 5 carriage bolts for such matters.

First picture is from plow book for spacer and bolt. Second, third picture is from standard hardware book.
