Hi all, I drained and refilled my rear end/trans on my B. I removed all 3 plugs and allowed all oil to come out. I refilled by the big plug by my left foot. However I think I overfilled it, I have oil coming out from the bottom of the left side axle housing. There’s an inspection hole on the underside of the axle housing I assume to check brakes, and I believe it’s flowing from there. Am I thinking this through correctly?

Sounds like the seal between the transmission and final drive is leaking.

yes... your axle seal is leaking.... you filled the oil at the 1 inch pipe plug and it fills to the bottom of the plug... Not much room to overfill..... the "hole" on the bottom is a drain for oil that leaks, water that gets in at the top of the brake drum, and to flush out mouse nests that get built inside...... You could run the oil level 1/2 inch low and see if that keeps it from leaking.. Will only drip when tractor is running and slinging oil up to top of the shaft.

i will look for a picture.. basically you want to block the tractor up with that tire 1 inch off the ground. Remove the tire / rim assembly... remove the fender and frame.... remove the 4 big bolts holding the final drive unit to the transmission.. The axle shaft slides thru the seal / bearings into a hollow spline shaft in the differential... You need a good overhead rigging or a engine hoist, etc to pull that final drive and keep it steady to reinstall... the seal is in the bearing retainer on the outside of the trans..

look at the 12:20 mark and it shows what you will see when you slide the final drive case away from the trans..... the bearing retainer has the seal inside...

Much appreciated for all the replies. When I say I over filled it I know it’s hard to technically overfill being it’s a plug, however I had a 5 gallon jug of UTF poured it in generously and threw the plug in when it started coming out so it was very possible to overfill it being that I didn’t let it level off, the oil spot has not enlarged in a few days
It is only leaking on the left side of the tractor with a drip coming from that inspection hole, being that tire on that side is low I figured the excess oil is following the pat of least resistance? I’m stumbled on this one. Everything else is dry as a bone
