Had mine in the bed of the truck today. 17 year old grandson asked what it was. Told him it was a manual weed eater. Used it on some briars today. Worked well.

Had a similar experience around 12 or 13. Pawpaw had one in his truck and I asked. He said "wanna see how it works?" I said "sure". I think he thoroughly enjoyed saying "I don't think you got it yet. Probably need to keep going" ![]() |

My grandson was using his Dad's Stihl gas powered weed/brush eater. Guess he'd never since the caveman type?

Got plenty of practice with those as well as ditch bank blade and bush axe when I was growing up. Still got some at the farm.

My Grand daddy was a walking Boss on a chain gang in South Georgia (think "Cool Hand Luke) I can remember sometimes going out to take him food when we were small and seeing all the convicts passing a file around as they touched up the blade after eating. I still have his double barrel shotgun he walked with. I always hated using one, but they worked great sharp and with the right rhythm and swing. Still think the weedeater is one of the greatest inventions around! I still remember a bad report from school guaranteed a weekend with one on the ditch in front of the house, or around the lake!

Some of the weeds we had only got cut once a summer and sunflowers/etc. were tall-like 8ft.+. Dad put a corn knife blade in the end of an axe handle and you swung it kind of like an axe and that sucker would hack off some pretty big stuff. Not great for a large area but worked well around buildings.
