1971_Chevelle 4-door Hardtop

Burger King - Columbia - Adair County - Kentucky
Monday_01-September-2025

The car is very rare in that it is column-shift, there ain't one in fifty that could even drive a column-shift --- I can - can you ?

It is even more rare because it is a 4-door hard-top WITH column shift.

I would bet money that, since it is a column shift, it is also an inline six-cylinder; I wish I had asked.

The two guys with this car, each driving separate vehicles, had just bought the Chevelle and were taking it home to Muhlenburg County; I wish I had asked where they bought it.

Being as plain-Jane as it is, with column-shift and most likely six-cylinder, and four doors, it is a miracle it has survived and survived in near showroom condition.

I can drive a 3 on the tree. My grandpa had about the ugliest most plain Jane Dodge pickup ever. Don’t know the year….,early 70’s, maybe late 60’s. But I drove it.

yup, year I graduated from HS ('69), daily driver was a '60 Belaire, straight 6 with three on the column! Like the Chevelle here, four door hard top, not fast, but cheap dependable transportation.

A good friend of mine inherited a 71 4 door Chevelle from his grandmother when he was 16 . Came with a vinyl hardtop . He hated it because of the vinyl hardtop and 4 doors. He drove it for a few years and then found a 2 door 72 chevelle that he still has today.

I learned to drive on an Austin with FOUR on the tree. Reverse, pull the knob out and shift. Lots of fun stalling on a steep hill.......dang pedals sooo close , could hit all with one foot...

my first car was a 70 Chevelle convertible with a 3 on the tree but a 350 2bbl carb under the hood. it was our only car till 1985 when we got a 83 Malibu station wagon. Put Classic Tags on the convertible and kept it for 20 years then sold it for a lot more than l paid for it when it was a year old...Harvey
