this may be elementary to many of you, but I never messed with anything other than a 'bumper hitch'. How does a fifth wheel hitch to the truck? Do I need to put holes in my bed? does it actually mount to the truck frame, or bed? Is there any way to avoind holes in the bed?

All I have seen requires holes in the bed.
The hitch actually attaches to the truck frame, with long bolts passing thru the bed, to the brackets attached to the frame. The fifth wheel hitch(or gooseneck hitch) does not attach to the bed. |

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

normally the bed is not substantial enough... bolt go thru the bed into a bracket that attaches to the frame.. SOLID.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

you can get a HIDDEN hitch that mounts under the bed and pops up... Or you can have BRACKETS that mount to the bed floor and the hitch is removable... That way you still have an open truck bed for moving other objects... but you would have a braket or two sticking up 2 inches above the floor when you remove the "hitch".
simple goose neck floor mount.. ![]() this is a 5th wheel, but you can see the BRACKETS that bolt to the floor... make sure what hitch your trailer has... ![]() Edited by steve(ill) - 6 hours 33 minutes ago at 8:19pm |

B+W hitches mount to the frame below the bed and the only holes are a 3 inch hole for the flip over ball and 4 1/2 in holes for the safety chain hooks.

thanks guys, think I'll stick with the 'bumper hitch'. The trailer w/gooseneck I was looking at is bigger than I wanted anyhow. Just my bride and dog and me, we don't need the Taja Mahal dragging behind us.
