had this happen before, was grilling today, freshly filled 30# propane bottle, everything going hunky-dory, happen to glance at the temp guage, and temp was slowly dropping, looked over at the bottle and the regulator was frosted over. 89 degrees outside, 54% humidity, gentle breeze from the South.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I fill my own tanks and if I overfill one it will usually freeze up the regulator. A little warm water and it’s going again.

Pffft! Child’s play! I once had 3 500 gallon propane tanks hooked together with 2 inch plumbing plus a 4th one with 3/4 inch tied in. They were filled to 250 psi of carbon dioxide, and I emptied them in n less than 2 minutes! Well, not quite, poor little 3/4 tubing couldn’t quite keep up so it was only down to ~50 psi or so. Yes it was on purpose. But you wanna talk about frost! I didn’t need no stinking regulators either!

Yeah. Global warming is probably my fault!😎

Greta doesn't care any more so it's all OK Wink

In seriousness though, WHY did you have a need to dump that much CO2 at once? That's one huge fire extinguisher!

Curiosity is getting the best of me, what was you working on with that much co2. Chasing moles or gophers perhaps.

It was a gas/liquid separator test rig. We would inject a known amount of oil into the flowing gas stream and then collect what the device separated and calculate the efficiency of separation. There were many sets of parameters tested, needless to say this was at the extreme top end.

Wanna know the crazy part? This rig was INDOORS and made mostly of ACRYLIC! The boss was big on testing stuff with acrylic so you could see what was going on. Yes of course the discharge was routed out the window. But if there had been a failure on that run I could have been possibly suffocated.

And yes, the sound of this particular test run was absolutely deafening!

Thank you for the explanation; I am often amazed at some stuff folks do for a living. Smile
