After hail last year got the house roof replaces but no back and forth with contractor as 3 sky-lites ( lite tubes ) were also damaged which now are not made anymore .
So Insurance turned down pole shed roofs as they say hair is cosmetic and they do not cover that or wear and tear to metal roofs . Hail strikes are over 10 in a measured area of sq ft . What happened is rebound from hail strike caused nail fasteners to pull out of purlins so have many areas where lead washer galvanized ring nails are 1/2 to 3/4 inches above sheeting. Now to figure what is next to try to do . Fight insurance or find another solution . Asked insurance adjuster about water damage to interior , was told I should do something to stop it from occurring - it's my responsibility to secure roof . |

Nails always PULL.. Should never be used.. Pull them out one at a time and install SCREWS with the rubber washer.. If you dont mind the hail dimples... No need to change the tin..

Had the son in law walk the roof of our 30 year old 60x100 pole shed 2 years ago after noticing some loose nails. He replaced about 50 that day. On older sheds a guy should check that every so many years as maintenance.

There's a considerable amount of thermal expansion that occurs on metal roofing- they'll not only pull, they'll stretch the holes out... then they drip...

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

The joy of a nailed on tin roof. The old barn here was built in the 1880's ( best guess of my ancestors ). In the 1930's a new tin roof was put on it. The 1 x 4's the shingles had been nailed to where all reused. Since the 1970's I had the privilege to go hammer nails down. In the 1990's we started replacing nails with screws. But in the last 10 years the zinc has left all is rusted. My days of climbing on roofs is over.
