  •   Callusing:
    After cutting seed potatoes, allow the cut edges to dry and callus over for a day or two. This process creates a protective layer that helps prevent rotting and promotes better healing. 
  •   Antifungal Powder:
    Some gardeners dust the cut edges with an antifungal powder, such as sulfur or lime, to further protect against fungal infections. 
  • Wood Ash:
  • Another option is to rub the cut sides with wood ash, which can help prevent rot and insects.

I always just cut them as I planted and I always had a good crop.

Last year, I had Late Blight on my potatoes and tomatoes. (Late Blight is rumored to be the same disease that caused the Irish Potato Famine). It basically destroyed my second planting of potatoes and hurt my early planting pretty bad.

This year, I will plant no potatoes for the first time in years. I have already started some tomatoes that are supposed to be Late Blight resistant.
