Since repairing the front wheel on my D12 series 3 I have decided to replace the tires instead of reinstalling the old ones. In the post a few days ago about wheel repair options Gary posted a reply that included a link (thanks again) with info and a picture of a D12 series 3. I like the looks of the tires in the picture much better than the tires on my D12. I have been trying to find out the tire size…with no luck. I found a couple of pictures online of D12’s and the tire size is obviously different. I will try to post both pictures. If anyone can help identify the larger tire size … many thanks. Currently I have 5:00-15

The picture on the right are 14.9 x 24's, which was an OPTION on the later series. D-10-12.  I just installed a set of 13.6 x 24's on my D-10 which replaced a pair of 11.2 x 24's. A big difference for sure. The larger tires may cause you to run the wheels out from the fender one setting (2 inches) to avoid contact.

Thanks Dr. But I was referring to the front tires. I have 14.9-24 on the rear but like the looks of the larger front tires

I have similar GM rims on my WD project as seen on the right photo. Tire size is 7.50x15

My D-12 Series III has 14-9 X 24 on the Rear and 7:50-16 on the 'car style' Rims on the front. I believe that was the size available from the Factory.

I’ve read somewhere there were tire size options from the factory. All the specifics I can find about the front tire option sizes were the 5:00-15 and something smaller (I can’t remember the smaller size). I would like to go with the larger size but don’t want to buy something that won’t fit.

look at the clearance between your present tire and the vertical spindle tube.. That can vary depending on what RIMS you have and the tire size... going from  5 inch to 7.5 inch will put you about 1.25 inch CLOSER to the spindle tube..... Do you have enough clearance ?

A good tire man can tell you what WIDTH of rim you need for a 6:50 x 15 or 7:50 x 15 tire to go on your existing wheel. You should be able to measure the rim width with a piece of wire bending it to measure like a calipers and remember if it measures 4 1/4" outside it is a 4 inch rim as you are measuring from the outside.

.There were a large number of front Tire sizes for the D-10 and D-12.

Here are most of them:

4.00 X 15, 5.00 X 15, 5.50 X 15, 6.40 X 15, 7.60 X 15

5.50 X 16, 6.00 X 16.

   Of course every body knows you have to use the appropriate Rim ( similar to what would have been supplied by the Factory EG. the Car Style Rim )

That way the Tire won't rub on the Steering Spindle.
