The Quebec government has adopted regulations banning the sale of most new gasoline-powered vehicles as of 2035.

The rules, adopted Monday, apply to all "light-duty" vehicles, which the province describes as cars, light trucks, pickup trucks, and most SUVs.

Starting Jan. 1, 2034, it will be illegal to sell a new or used version of any 2035 model of vehicle subject to the rules, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.


whats interesting is the INCLUSION of HYBRIDs !!!

New rule will certainly help the sale of GM 2500HD Trucks since their GVWR is above the 10,000 lb. threshold.

And starting Dec. 31, 2035, it will be illegal to sell or lease new gas-powered vehicles, covered by the regulation, from the 2034 model year or earlier.

However, models of cars from 2034 or earlier that are already registered in Quebec by the deadline can remain on the roads and can be resold.

The government says the new rules will help it reach its goal of electrifying its transportation network, which contributes 43 per cent of the province’s annual greenhouse gas emissions.

Mopeds, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles are exempt from the rules, as are vehicles used by short-term rental companies.

And what of the aged-out rental units, can they be resold after their rental life is over or do they plan on forced-scrapping them? (VERY green indeed if the latter Wacko AND if the former, how many new upstart "hire outfits" will spring up? You know, the upmarket premium-experience type where they have a high turnover of vehicles as they get a couple of hundred miles on them & "fall below standard" thus "forcing" the company to resell them... Star

hmm... if Mr. Trump does issue the 25% tariffs AND Quebec + Ontario halt all electricity to USA, that'd free up a lot of electrons for pure battery powered cars and trucks........WinkHypocrites exempt 'emergency vehicles' and probably EVERY level of government vehicle.

Highly doubt it, but I guarantee if any of these libtard pipe dreams ever come into effect, there is going to be a lot of soccer moms driving F250, F350, 2500 and 3500 trucks around to go get groceries.

FORD Oakville already KNOWS that ! They were going to retool the plant for EVs ONLY, gave up( NO money in EVs..)  NOW being retooled FOR F250/350 gas  and diesel....

When that craps out 2-3 years from now Ford USA will shut down Oakville, jobs go back .south of the 49th. Seen that happen before......Butler closed CBS, 1990+-.

What so many disregard is at some point, and has already happened with 3/4 tons of Ford and Ram, the truck GVWR reaches a weight accompanied by a Trailer GVWR and a CDL IS Required, Unless license and use SOLELY as a RV.  The CDL requirements in the US are NOT Limited to Commercial Trucks, is ONLY based upon Combined machine Gross Vehicle Weight RATING, not Licensed Weight or any other misconception, the Builder tag Rating On the truck Door Frame and Trailer ID Tags.

For as long as I can remember, GM has offered a No Charge Option to replace the

2500HD GVWR Door Sticker of 11,300 lb. with a 9,900 lb. sticker.

That lets the owner avoid the special licensing requirements for Trucks over 10,000 lb.

I doubt if there is a very high percentage of 2500HD Trucks that are hauling Trailers heavier than 16,000 lb.

hmm... bet the door sticker does NOT replace the VIN, which should dictate WHAT the truck 'really' is.
Here in Ontario, I have black on white truck plates,so my truck is 'commercial' BUT I have a sticker that says ' for personal use ' or some such so I don't have to get yearly safety inspections.....or have to obey 'commercial' laws, whatever they are......

Me too. Got an F550 that is for personal use and requires no annual safety.  I just brought a scale ticket to the license bureau (that may or may not have been fudged) to show that it weighs just a hair under 4500 KG, LOL

Probably wouldn't look at your scale ticket. Roll it across the scale buddy. Now your 550 empty may be just under 10,000 lbs. Depends on what body you have.

THAT IS CORRECT. THAT IS THE WAY IT IS TO-DAY. (HERE IN ONTARIO)

THE ADVANTAGE OF HAVING THE 9,900 LB. STICKER IS A GREAT SAVINGS IN THE ANNUAL LICENSE PLATE STICKER FOR A 2500 SERIES TRUCK.

My 2024 2500HD Diesel has a door sticker GVWR of 11,300 lb.

My License sticker is $265 every year on my birth month.

Trucks with a GVWR between 6,600 lb. and 10,000 lb. less than 1/2 - $120

Trucks, Cars, SUV's etc. with a GVWR of 3,000 kg - 6,600 lb. or less are FREE

A Silverado 1/2 ton High Country Crew Cab weighs 4,800 lb.

So you could have a Fancy Top of the Line 4 door High Country and carry an

   additional 18,00 lbs. weight AND GET A FREE LICENSE STICKER - TODAY.


Seems like that puts you BACK in the LIGHT DUTY TRUCK ??

AGREED - BUT NOT UNTIL THE YEAR 2035.

Ff you still want a Gas or Diesel, you get a 2500HD with 10,000 lb plus GVWR.

That comment was in relation to DMillers comment about special licensing may be required Eg. CDL IN MISSORI.

Ed makes a good point.

The Province provides the Power to his Residence.

The Resident owner provides the necessary equipment to be able to use that Power.

Same arrangement as the owner does for the electricity he uses in his residence.

He provides the Electrical Panel, Breakers, Wiring etc.to suit his needs.

If he owns an EV, the Province provides the Power, the owner provides the means to be able to use that Power.

The Public Charge Stations would be meant primarily for the Travelling Public who are not able to return to their Residence to their own Charge Station.

Sounds like a Plan.

Holds true here as well, from the drop at the pole into the meter base is the Utility's property, the feeder into the residence or workshop and beyond the power panel(s) are the residence/shop owner's.  All maintenance from the meter base out is Resident or Structure owner's.  

As to EV power, the National Electrical Code has already been revised three times, current iteration is 120vac Plug In is no longer allowed as a base charging platform even as a stand alone circuit similar to refrigerator.  The next iteration was a stand alone 240vac plug in where that has been disallowed.  

The current is a Separate 240vac stand alone transformer to a 200a Metered panel so that a Maximum of TWO charging Stations can be powered to feed no more than two machines at a time with No More Than 4, 120vac additional breaker supplied outlets for support as to lighting in that area.  This I got from the town electrical supply department personnel.  Buy an EV and need this installed Here, is $14,000 NOT Including the charging station nor the electrical service panel, those supplied to a licensed electrician to install for the residence owner.  
Needless to say the rental units in town do NOT have said apparatus installed due to costs, so far.  Are currently 4 EVs in private hands here with rallies been held of Tesla and Rivian autos in town where the city set up a Portable Diesel Charging station for them, so far they are not planning a charging center nor are the fueling stations here.

My own insurer agent noted that should We ever purchase a EV, must be housed or stored in a separate structure the company will NOT Insure for Fire Damage at all, they will not insure EVs at all either as the autos once damaged can only be repaired at a Dealer facility and nearly 90% are totaled regardless damage levels.  CANNOT EVER place inside the structures attached to the home or my Workshop as the insurance coverage on those will become voided.

so all they need is 200,000 HOME stations with 200 amp service and NEW 240 v plugs for the cars... all turned ON every night to charge the cars.... What could POSSIBLY go wrong with this plan ?    LOL ..... and dont worry about the COST... Im sure the GOVT will pay for everything..  Wink
