An older man that I’ve known for years bumped in to me at the lumber yard recently. He told me he wanted me to come out to his house next time I was in his area.
This week I’m working right down the road from him. I went by to visit after work yesterday. He said he wanted to give me a 22. I looked at and told him I could pay him something for it. He said absolutely not.
He said he hasn’t shot it in over 30 years.
I thanked him and offered him a hand at any chores he could use help with.
He had me take some stuff from his shed and load it in his truck. Didn’t take ten minutes.
I brought it home and gave it a quick cleaning and shot ten rounds through it.
Cycled nicely. I really like it.

That is a sweet shooting 22. One of my older cousins gave Dad one in the late fifties or early sixties and I inherited it when Dad passed away and I hope to pass it on to a family member who will take care of it.

wow I saved my nickles and bought one of those in high school ( class of 61 Confused ) for hunting cotton tails.  That sucker ate 22 shorts like candy.  Still have it today.  Nice .22!

Remington made good rifles and shotguns in the years your 22 was made. Unfortunately they've fell on hard times. Enjoy the gift and see if family members can enjoy shooting it too!

Pat, I was pondering on the same thing after I read Thad’s post. My granddaughter (only grandchild) likes guns but has other interests also, so I wonder if she will treasure what has been handed down to me. One is my grandfather’s 44spl which I definitely want to stay in the family. I presently have two guns that belonged to the father of a close friend who asked me to store them for safekeeping probably forty years ago. He passed away several years ago and I have reminded his daughter twice that I have them and she can get them at any time. So far they are still stored away.
