Refrig died and looking for a new one.. Thinking a "LOCAL" shop would be good as they can deliver.. Tried 3 different TOWNs for LOCAL DEALERS and all are going out of business this month. NOTHING in stock. Said the last 3 years are killing them. Cant even make a living doing repairs. Said you might as well drive 50 miles to Home Depot or Lowes and talk to them... but warned, they might not deliver to some areas out of town..

The ice maker recently quit on ours.
I’m gonna have to figure out how to fix it on my own. I don’t think we have an appliance repair around here anymore either. |

Ice maker quit on the 2000 LG fridge 5(?) years ago. Silly plastic gear was stripped....had to buy complete unit of course. LG wanted $300, parts place , $150...SAME unit, same box. Thought it odd that a reseller could sell for LESS than LG office ? Oh well, 2 hours later, was making new ice cubes. It was a simple repair until I dropped a screw... BTW bifocals don't work too well in side a fridge.....

Don't get a Whirlpool, ours makes the awfullest noises, called the 800 number, kid cam out last Thursday, will be back this Thursday with the parts, (plural). Office in St. Louis said they get 500 Whirlpool calls a month, we were stop #8 of 11 that day for him. Supposed to be one of the best at Lowe's.

Brother got an LG refrigerator a little over a year ago. Ice maker quit, replaced. Had compressor replaced, condenser replaced, still leaks refrigerent, may get replacment refrigerator. Repairman said most home refrigerators and freezers are designed to last about 10 years. My parents bought a new Tyler freezer in 1947 and it has worked continuously ever since. New GE refrigerator in 1947 also and quit using a few years ago because it froze everything. You would think as time and technology advances things overall should improve, right?

The old ones were made in America, that's why they last. All the new stuff is just Chinese junk, and you're lucky it works the first time you plug it in!!

It's not really where they are made but HOW they are designed. They're DESIGNED to fail in +-10 years. After all if they were made properly, the fridge company would only make ONE batch of them, then be out of business ! Same applies to cars, computers, etc. darn near everything we use. Heck when did you here of anyone repairing a shovel cause the handle broke ?? Nope, go buy another one.....

We built this home we live in in 2014, completed in 2015, bought new appliances as the old ones at the last house were old and in it as we purchased it, simpler to leave than drag and patch. Samsung had better reviews so was why we bought. Main fridge had a door ice/water dispenser and did not suspect a issue with that in the Refrigerator section, it failed three times where I repaired twice, bought a Simple inline shut off at last event and blocked juts the Ice maker, unplugged that component internally as well. Second fridge has been very good, simple side by side instead of three door freezer on bottom. Al the other kitchen ware seem to be holding their own, Gas Cooktop, ovens, microwave and dishwasher with the last as the one small parts eater, had to replace silverware baskets as began corrupting and breaking apart, is a Bosch.
Had a curious incident the other morning, wife stepped out on deck, heard a air leak discharge noise and smelled a foul odor, the BBQ grill that is connected to House supply system had the Side Burner turned FULL ON, we have not ever used this. These controls are also not easily rotated, push Down to unlock, and we had not used in over two weeks(Wife cannot drive Charcoal) and we had our morning coffee outside several times between use and discovery. We had a thru floor fireplace shut off installed when plumbed gas line, has a Key type operating stem that removes, shut off that at every Qing completion, it also was open. So now the Key is Inside the house. Still uncertain as to how or who affected that and why. Currently adding security cams around the place. Sad when cannot trust in a small rural community. Since 2018 been keeping everything locked including Barn, as had unwanted quests at the barn and a odd car came up drive while I was not working that sped away. Local house not far away had a drive up with a person that exited carrying a weapon, got ran off by shotgun. |
