Dad bought a new early D17 with a mounted 17 picker. It had both metal side shields.

2 years ago I got stuck driving a d-17 and 170 picker!!! Ya it had metal sides on it and was the biggest POS for a picker ever!!! All it did was plug the rollers in the slowest gear it had!
Eons ago my neighbor had one and used it for years. Corn back then had REAL stalks and NOT todays popcorn stalks!

You don't suppose the 50 year old picker needed some new blades on the snapping rolls ???

These pickers were designed for 100 bushel corn, not 250+! I go to corn-picker events in the fall and most struggle to go slow enough to digest the crop. One exception is my buddy Kevin's 806/234 IH. Low 4th at P.T.O. speed, 6mph or a little more, with a sheller unit.
