Horseweeds ??

You have Marestail weed. Yes it is tolerant to glyphosate(Roundup). Here’s a Purdue University weblink about which herbicides kill it. IMO, a mower works the best to kill it. If it’s in your field, then consider growing a winter cover crop such as rye, wheat, etc., as their roots contain a natural toxin to it, plus this toxin limits germination of a few more nasties(waterhemp, etc).

How about ‘Ground Clear’ will wipeout everything.
Of course the old standby; gasoline & diesel fuel mixture, 75% gasoline 25% diesel fuel.

Yes Marestail is resistant to roundup. Farmers in Michigan have had problems with it in soybeans for years and had to change their Herbicide program by incorporating Dicamba or switching to Liberty Link Soybeans to keep the Marestail under control. For control around the farm buildings, I use Roundup and 2-4-D and sometimes Brush Killer.

Lots of mare's tail here in central Ohio. Seems to have appeared in the last 8 - 10 years. Will grow anywhere and like you all say, difficult to kill. I don't think our winters kill it either. 2,4-D works pretty well but the stuff just keeps coming back. Wonder if it came from overseas somewhere. 

Yep...Mare's Tail.  One of those weed that was never around before No-Till as it like nearly anything else isn't resistant to plowshares. It became a problem in fields that were no-tilled and in the corners , were no one farms anymore, it has now become a prevalent weed in any untended area. In small area they are an easy weed to just pull of in soft ground. Not letting them go to seed it extremely important. A 100 of them this year will be 10,000 next year.

Once it's in an area and not controlled it will be around forever. Like Multiflora rose, that never used to be around here, but after WWII it was brought over here to by the soil conservation service we will never get rid of it. Same goes for Johnsongrass, here in the eastern states no one ever knew anything of it before a bunch of hay was shipped east during a few drought years in the 40s, now WV has it like it's the state crop, and many yuppies have it around their homes as an ornamental plantings.  Control is the best that can be hoped for and constant diligence is required, if your neighbor doesn't care, you will always have that problem .
