Allis 6080 Transmission oil goopy?

Just drained transmission oil. Changed last year, but was very 'goopy' and grey. Had some metal flakes in oil plug.

Possible causes? Gears are not grinding after clutch adjustment.

grey normally means water... very humid area ?  parking outside ?  fill or vent open to atmosphere . rain ? ... If tractor is used for short trips and nver gets HOT that can allow condensationi to form..

Humid SC. Parked outside. Where is vent?

Short and long trips. Chores, fence building, bush hogging and house building.

What about metal shavings? This is concerning to me. Indicative of larger problem

some metal particles are normal... You will see that on the magnet plug.. If BIG pieces, that is not a good sign... GREY / WATER is not due to metal wear ... unless you have metal powder / dust suspended in the oil... You could take a cup sample and let it set for a few days and look at what settles out.. Can also warm up the oil above a  campfire or microwave and see what water boils off..

Ok, makes sense. There were no BIG pieces. I'll transfer oil into another bucket (settled over night), and see if anything is in there.

Shifter boot is worn out. Could water be getting in there that way in addition to humidity?

1% water in the oil is a LOT... thats about a cup of water in 10 gallons of oil... YES.. broken boots are a big problem.
