I seen this on Facebook Market place. I can guess that he paid someone to do the work and is trying to get his money back out of it.

not to be rude but: It has the cheap gauges, incorrect head lights, missing side panels and has a alternator.

if your looking for VINTAGE CORRECT, that not going to fly... IF you want a NEW 40 HP tractor ( built in the USA)... that might be a good price..

That deere has an OFFSHORE engine in it...
so 'built using USA AND foreign parts'.....
probably a LOT of it was NOT 'Made in USA'....

At least my Kubota was made in Japan AND the USA !

yea.... i didnt mean to imply the Deere was made in the USA... Just pointing out the PRICE of a NEW tractor is over $20K for 40 HP.... "AND" the advantage of the D15 is IT WAS made in the USA...

The guy says EVERYTHING was rebuilt... Engine, trans, final drives... You could say it is a NEW TRACTOR at that point... Granted, most of us know that you can buy a "GOOD" D15 a lot cheaper.... just pointing out that when comparing Quality and HP... the D15 might not be out of line..

That feller could have more than that in that Tractor than he's asking if he had it professionally done by a resto shop with parts, materials & labor today. As Steve mentioned, in comparison to that 40HP foreign Green thing at 34K, that D14 is basically new with all that was done to it. Looks pretty darn nice to me, cheap gauges and all.  Hell, look what tires by themselves cost today. Not counting tubes and mounting.  Yikes!

Waaaaay over market value but put the same hours on the D14 as the new JD and I'd bet my Hundred the D14 will still be around when the JD has been junked.

I think the 149 has a 3.500 inch bore..( the 138 had a 3.375 bore).... Aftermarket kits for both, go to 3- 9/16 bore with new pistons / liners / rings..

if i remember right, the 160 had a 3-5/8 inch bore ....... all the same stroke.

I had my D17 fully professionally restored and it didn't cost that much.  But mine will stay in the family.

Certainly can take some serious cash to do one correctly. Sounds like it has been gone completely through. But wow, not going to get that kind of cash out of it. A black bar tractor, my favorite model. A pretty nice one even with its cheap gauges. Maybe the side panels come with it and just haven’t been installed?
