Many years ago I ran a 190 XT (bigger than 190) carb and even had a larger venturi in it. Manifold had to have a larger neck welded to it.

We tried D19 and G Gleaner carbs - unless the throat is opened up to the diameter of the butterfly or venturi - it will not help. We had the intake throat drilled to as large as we thought safe, we had a plate made with counter sunk screws to attach to manifold and wider holes for the carb with the ears of the manifold ground back on ends. On the dyno - with WD pistons over bore, lunati cam, 2000 RPM - D19 carb - premuim gas right at 75 hp. 65 with a 175 carb. (about the same as factory) Don't think the G carb off the 301 helped much if any. HP is one thing -torque is another. The larger carbs at much higher RPM's - which we didn't do back in the day - would have helped I am sure.

But, to efficiently make use of a true 190XT carb, you must cut off the manifold mounting throat and weld on a LARGER one to match the carbs larger throat. No adapters.

thats doable and easyer (welding on a new flange) than finding a tsx 848 or a zenith 14997 unless i buy new . i think the d19 one will be the best for me, how much differance on the inside will the 262 combine carb one be from the tractor one ?

D-19 style carb can be made to fit the manifold with 1/4" bolts and nuts and machine out the manifold hole to match the carb. Early C-C2 combines used this size of carb. Later G-262 combines used the larger style 190XT Bendix carb.

i got a little measuring in to day and the manifold could be milled to slot the holes and just make it, with out making slots all the way out to the edge that would help keep it from looking modified and help keep the carb centerd good. i have been looking at a brand new zenith 14997 on the internet suposed to be the tsx 848 replacement . i do have the zenith of a d17 parts tractor it is the stock one it will get me started . what one is better between the zenith 14997 or the marvel tsx 848 ?
