Does AGCO still sell complete ring kits for a WD? Dealer says I have to buy one ring at a time or buy an overhaul kit.

Yes. Had cylinders professionally honed just because my hone is shot. Head rebuilt, block decked because it was 7 thousands out of flat (maybe wasn't necessary) I thought 7 was a bit much and head gasket blew out in probably less than 200 maybe 300 hours. New seats and valves. I had an old, now passed, local mechanic do the valve jobs years back and one intake was burned out and a couple other valves in not too good of shape. Shop guy says an old worn out valve grinder will cause that. Anyhow I do have a set of NOS rings in an Allis overhaul kit but I don't want to use those because I have plans for that kit. This will be pretty much a complete overhaul job.

Dr, I didn't know hastings was still going. Used to be the go to here in Rochester. I'll go to the machinist and see. I just don't trust most after market parts anymore.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

Hastings is where manufacturers go to get their OEM rings... if you buy an OEM kit, or an aftermarket kit, chances are pretty darned good they bought what they're selling you... from Hastings...Wink

What do you guys think of this idea? WC's and WD's use three 1/8" thick compression rings. I considered using two 1/16" thick rings in each of 2 of the compression ring grooves and stagger the gaps. This duplicates a gapless ring. Also, use a .030" over ring in a standard bore and file fit the end gap to AC specs. What about using 2 of the compression ring grooves instead of 3 as do modern 4 stroke gas engines? Chrome Moly, Plasma Chrome Moly, or cast iron rings are another consideration. What's your thoughts?
