Restoring a, b tractor have a question about the steering column original has rust holes, was wondering about the square piece welded to the column toward the bottom above the steering box. What is it's purpose? Plan on making my own column and was curious about that piece.

On the early 'B' tractors, that was where you stored the hand crank. I have a '39, crank start only and all original. I'll see if I can get a picture of it showing the crank in place.

i dont know if you have measured the tube or not... but it is the same as a steel Conduit.. you can buy a section at the Hard Ware store.

Ok I was starting to worry that maybe I was missing something that it may bolted to, but it doesn't have any holes in it to bolt to anything. Yes I was going to build one out of thicker material I think other than coming up with a type of bushing it Shud work I think.
