I read in another post that the 24v starter requires two 24v batteries is that a type"o" or is there two 24v batteries hooked in parallel

You will need two 12VDC starting batteries in series wiring configuration for 24VDC power.

The starter doesn't care how many batteries or what the Number on them says as long as at the end of the cable hooked to starter there is 24V of voltage .
Now the generator might insist the polarity of the batteries is in one direction , the starter doesn't care which way . |

The 7G I had was 24V start charge, had two group 31 batteries, worked a charm, did convert to N Ground and hung a 24V Alternator, made life simpler.
