| What are good tires for a Allis D17 Series I (brand)? Currently have 18.4/15-28 but need to replace tubes and might as well do all at once.   Also, liquid ballast or not?  Plowing days are over, it will just be a utility tractor for now. | |

I'd agree. I've had a set of BKT's 14.9 x 28's on my WD45 (that I plow with when the chance arises) for 10 years now.

I just put a set of BKT 14-9x28’s on my 45. One reason is I’ve had good service from the BKT 12.4X24’s on my 2 CA’s.

16.9 x 28 bias ply "R-1" 6-ply rear tractor tire. Didn't know they had more than that other than a radial.

14.9 is too small for a D17.  Go with 16.9.

The only time I thought 14.9's on a D-17 was appropriate was a customers series 1 with a manure loader and a low shed door. He even had the muffler laying horizontally to get in that door it was that low.

| had a D-17 with 14.9x28's that I thought looked just right. Cause I was getting ready to sell it! I noticed a 180 at the tire shop the other day that was in for new shoes. 18.4x28's came off and were there. Firestone's, pretty worn and some cracking but still usable. I could inquire with the owner as to their availability? Tires that size are pretty hard to come up with. | |

I have a pair of Firestone 18.4X28 tires with new tubes.  I also have a pair of Goodyear tubeless radials 16.9X28.   Located in Maryland, very near Gettysburg Pa.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

So, I went back to the tire shop yesterday. Those 18.4x28's are probably better than I thought, however, they will not be for sale as they are going on one of the current owners other tractors. When they get the rim situation figured out.

I don't know off hand what size rims you have but I have a set of take off's trelleborg tires that are 540/65/38,they will fit a 16x38 rim,but they may be to big for you, they are on marketplace also..

"how do 18 .4 28 look on a d17?" Our IV had 18.4's on it when we first bought it used 40 years ago.  I put on 16.9's a few years ago when it finally got new tires.  I think the 16.9's are perfect for this size tractor.  They just look right. The 18.4's were too wide and just looked like overkill.  If you plowed they were too wide for the furrow.  Forget something like cultivating.  Each to their own, but for an all-around utility tractor, I wouldn't put 18.4's on it again.   | |

i know this is getting off the orignal post mine does have 16.9 x 28 and they are very close to the top of the fenders ,  i think they look good .  tires that are taller than the fenders i think looks bad.     but i want to put 9.50 x15 or 11.00 x 15 on front  as long as the top of the hood sits level

Well, I don't know, you could give them a call. Hewitt tire, 641-259-2097, ask fort Steve. I mentioned the 18.4's because I think some series's 4's had them and they are a hard size to find. I have lots of 16.9x28's around here, four tractors, one set of duals, may be a spare or two out there? All my 18.4's are 34's or 38's. Just brought home my first, (and probably only) set of 20.8x38"s.
