Hello all! As mentioned in a previous post my Dad left me a D-19 gasoline tractor. Since Dad bought it there has only been one battery. I put a new battery in it a few weeks ago and although it will start the tractor, the starter is very slow. I'm not sure if it needs to be rebuilt or not. I notice the battery box is large enough to hold two batteries and not a single big one because there is a partition across the middle of the box. Did this tractor originally have two batteries wired in parallel? This is the only answer I can come up with. Thanks for any help, Rick

May want to have your new battery load tested first just to make sure it’s up to it’s rating. Good Cables and a good ground are required for proper starting and charging of the battery. I always use 2/0 cables with crimps. Makes a huge difference in performance.

Gas tractors never needed two batteries. Diesel tractors used both battery trays. How many CCA's of a battery did you buy ??

I believe it's 560 but I'm not sure on that. The battery box is small. I think it is the same as my 50 Kubota diesel battery. Thanks for the responses, Rick

1 Good battery is all it needs, but this is a good opportunity to make sure your ignition system is working as good as it should. If the starter has never been rebuilt, it probably needs it after 60 years. Also make sure you have good and thick battery cables. Also a good idea to inspect the whole wiring harness for cracked and/or frayed wires.

i dont know how big the battery box is on a D19... but my F150 has a 900 CCamp battery and my little B has a 700 CCA battery... ??

Just put new group 24 batteries in my D17 diesel. 660 CCA. The battery box is not very large. It maxes out the foot print.
