Just wonder if she says that because it has the normal crepe while in neutral common in the D series?

Take the access door off and see if the brass shims are out of the PD clutch.  Also if the PD fluid is too thick, or moisture laden (cloudy or milky)...Wink

I would not be worried about it.  They are easy to work on.  Could be creeping and they are assuming neutral is out.

All 4 of my D-14s never had a true 'neutral'..... creep a little, unless plow was acting as an anchor..... yes, thick oil, it's creep more....
What could be an issue is the ' 3rd gear pop out when backing off speed' problem....
or
PTO lever dribbles some oil
or
rockshaft ram seal / line leak

but they are GREAT tractors !!!

query... is it a 6 volt or 12 volt version ?

As the transmission oil warms up the issue becomes less evident.

My D15, D17 and 190XT all have varying amounts of creep in neutral, I wouldn’t worry.
190XT Series III, D17 Series IV, D15 Series II, All Crop 66 and a whole mess of equipment.

I’m debating here on my second cup of coffee…why buy another? Another alternator conversion, another battery, another fluids change, another yearly oil and filter and etc etc etc. Twenty three oranges are enough…..but dang I always wanted a pristeen 14….

Pristine D14's are very hard to come by.  If you find one, GET IT!  Most have had craapy repaints done.  I have 3 original D14s.  They are always the "go to" tractor for light chores around the farm.  If you find one with factory power steering, even better.  No need to convert to an alternator - I am still running generators on all of mine.  Get them professionally rebuilt and they are good to go.

Dad on the 1958 that his father bought in 1960:

1959 That I bought for $200.  Sat in a barnyard for 15 years.  Engine was rusted solid.

1960 I bought 3 years ago from someone's private collection.

Oh man you guys are killing’ me! Yes it has power steer and original paint. I changed oil and filters and antifreeze and air filters in the 200 then 175 then 7020 then D17 III then WD45 WF just to keep my mind off that 14 today. Tomorrow I have 10 more to do trying to forget the 14!

I’m partial to those 1959 black bar grill D14’s and D17’s. Best looking grill they ever made IMO

Would rather have a D14 than a D15.....

it might be because it had Power steering added and it works FANTASTIC !!!!!

I have spent MANY an hour on our D14 doing EVERYTHING but heavy tillage.

When my Dad was a dealer Late 50's to Early 60's, Our demonstrator tractor was a NF D14. I spent alot of time in that seat and loved every minute.  We didn't have a truck so the 14 was used to pickup and deliver equipment.  Great little tractor !!!!
